For the second year in a row, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is giving up play-calling to his offensive coordinator.

For the second year in a row, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is leaving his offensive coordinator role.

Out of a bye, Stefanski announced at his press conference Monday that Tommy Rees will take over offensive play-calling going forward.

"I have a ton of faith and faith in Tomla, but it's a group, it's strange, like us as coaches, it's our fault, that's what we have to do," Steffanski said of the previous decision, via news Jeff Sachildedzna.

Stefanski said the bye week allowed him to experience things, and he felt Reese gave the offense a good chance to improve.

"I thought it was the right time for him," Stefanski said."It's never about one person, whether you're talking about a player or a coach. But, I think Tommy's going to be himself and do what he says to do. I'll be there every step of the way to help him — just like you should be with any play caller."

The quarterback will remain the same, so rookie Dillon Gabriel is set to make his fifth start when the Browns play the Jets on Sunday.

Stefanski was Cleveland's offensive lineman from the time he was hired in 2020 until he handed the role to former offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey midway through the 2024 season.Stefanski resumed that role in 2025 after Rays was promoted to OC during the offseason.

Reese, 33, played quarterback at Notre Dame before getting into coaching. He was the QBs coach and offensive coordinator for his alma mater before serving as OC and QBs coach under Nick Saban at Alabama in 2023. He joined the Browns staff in 2024 as a pass game specialist and tight ends coach.
