Manhattan, Kan. () - An attorney representing the late K-State football coach is speaking out following the incident that occurred Sunday, Feb.15, as shown.

According to a report from ESPN's Pete Thamel, Tang has defended Tom Mars and Bennett Speyer in the case of his firing.Mars reportedly gave the following statement to ESPN:

Mars reportedly told On3's Pete Nakos that they planned to file a lawsuit, saying, "Yes, definitely, but we'll give the K-State president and the AD a few days to regain their composure before we pull the trigger."

According to a report by The Mercury, Gene Taylor said he met with Tang on Sunday morning to present both options.Taylor said no specific dollar amount was discussed, only that the payments would be "significantly less" than any outright purchase.Tang asked for time to discuss the proposal.Taylor initially set the deadline at 5 a.m., later pushing it to 6 p.m.as lawyers for both sides exchanged messages.Taylor said Tang would accept that.that there was a "thin veil of hope".

Instead, Tang's lawyers responded that he would only resign if he received the full buyout amount stipulated in the contract.

The buyout is worth approximately $18.7 million and would apply if Tang was fired without cause.By firing him “with cause,” K-State argues that a buyout is not required. The university maintains that his comments after the Cincinnati loss and the reaction that followed breached his contract.Taylor admitted to The Mercury that the dispute could go to court and said he expected Tang to continue repaying the full amount.

On Sunday night, Taylor named Matthew Driscoll as interim head coach.Driscoll, currently the Wildcats' associate head coach, spent 16 seasons as the head coach at North Florida before joining K-State this season.

K-State went 71-57 in Tang's 128 games as a head coach.
