No. 23 USC came back in the second half to beat Nebraska 21-17 and extend the Huskers' losing streak against the top 25.
LINCOLN, Neb. -- King Miller ran for 129 yards and the winning touchdown in the fourth quarter, and No. 23 Southern California overcame its worst passing performance in seven years to beat Nebraska 21-17 on Saturday night.
The Trojans (6-2, 4-1) have the national championship.The Huskers wore all black as did most of the 86,000 Diamon.
"You go somewhere like this, against a good football team, and people go if they have a problem, and it's people who do it today," said Coach Lincln Riiny."They were surprised. And so, to win all that is great. Is it a sign of progress? It certainly is now."
The clipothushers (6-3, 3-3) lost 3-3 to an ankle injury in the third quarter and dropped the 39th game against a ranked opponent.Coach Matt Rhole did not have an update on Raoola's condition after the game.
USC was able to make up for its problems with a running game that gained 25 yards, most of which came on touchdowns.Miller had five of the Trojans' 10 rushes for at least 10 yards.
"Honestly, we just went back to square one, went back to basics and just made key plays," Miller said."That's what we did today. It wasn't really a surprise to us."
The Trojans took their first lead in the fourth.Jayden Maava threw a 43-yard pass to Jaden Richardson on Flean Gicker and USC was at the Nebraska 6 after the pass.Miller's next story is running.
The Huskers were pinned at the 4-yard line to begin their final possession with 3:27 remaining.Freshman TJ Latif, who replaced Raiola, struggled for a first down.But on fourth-and-1 from their own 27, Emmett Johnson slipped and fell after the handoff, and the Trojans ran out of timeout.
Johnson had 165 yards and 29 carries.
The Huskers led 14-6 at halftime and intercepted Maiava's first pass of the third quarter.He became the quarterback of the Trojans' next drive with a 16-yard rush for 29 yards.USC tied the game at 14 when Miller took a direct snap, faked a field goal and raced into the corner of the end zone for the 2-point conversion.
"Anytime we give up 200 yards rushing, we're not happy," said Ruhl, who signed a two-year contract on Thursday. "I don't think anybody gets 21 points regularly. We had some good moments, some gutsy moments defensively, but we lost the game, so we're going to have to improve."
USC: The Trojans went 2-5 in most games since entering conference play the year they went on the road.The drive was their fewest since JT Daniels and Matt Fink combined for 132 in a loss to Utah in 2018.
Nebraska: The Huskers couldn't take advantage of their first "Blackout" game, with the team wearing all-black uniforms for the first time since 2020 and nearly all of the 86,529 fans dressed in black as well.
USC: Host Northwestern on Friday.
Nebraska: Visits UCLA on Saturday.
