Husker Legend Jim Hartung Dies - University of Nebraska - Official Athletics Website

Statement from Nebraska Athletics:

"The Nebraska Department of Athletics is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Assistant Men's Gymnastics Coach Jim Harting on Saturday night. Our condolences go out to Jim's family, his friends, and everyone Jim impacted during his distinguished career as a gymnast. From a national champion athlete to our Olympians, the resources available to our male gymnasts students and our men's gymnastics department will provideResources are available to our gold medal and coaching staff for decades to come.

Hartung, 65, has been an assistant gymnastics coach at Nebraska for the past 19 seasons, returning to the championship program he helped build as one of the most accessible gymnasts during his career from 1979 to 1982 to 1982 to 1982 to 1982 to 1982. His accalides81 and all 9 NCAA titles including several in 1982.

Hartung also led the and Coach Francis Allen to their first four NCAA team titles (1979-1980-1981-1982) and became Nebraska's first Nissen-Emery Award winner in 1982. He was a two-time member of the United States Olympic team, helping the U.S. to its first and only team gold medal at the Los Angeles 1984 Summer Olympic Games.

Hartung was a member of the inaugural Nebraska Athletic Hall of Fame class in 2015 and was part of the inaugural College Athletic Association Hall of Fame Class of 2024.

Hartung has four children, Jim, Nick, Jake and Hannah.
