Sebastien Buemi will start the Formula E Mexico City E-Prix from pole position in stunning conditions at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

Sebastian Buemi will start the Formula E Mexico E-Prix from pole, even if he doesn't set the fastest pace of Taylor Barnard at the finish.

DS Penske's Barnard was faster than Buemi, but suffered significant understeer on the exit of the final corner, which sent him over the limits of the course and his lap time was erased.

Buemi was on pole for the 150th Formula E race, with Barnard, Edoardo Mortara and Mitch Evans completing the top four.

It was a disastrous qualification for Pascal Wehrlein, who was eliminated in the group stage and started from the sixth row.

It was an overall disappointing race for Porsche, with none of its six cars making it to the semi-finals.

As was the case in qualifying, Buemi had a weak first sector but made time in sector two.In all his duels, he often gained significant time.

In the final, however, Barnard posted an extraordinary first- and second-place finish and continued on his way until he went off the road in the final corner.

Barnard defeated Porsche's Nico Müller in the quarter-finals to reach the final, before defeating Mahindra's Mortara in the semi-finals.

As for Buemi, he got past Oliver Rowland in the quarter-finals, and easily edged Evans in the quarter-finals.

In the other two quarter-finals, Mortara defeated championship leader Jake Dennis, while Evans defeated Dan Ticktum.

As qualifying began in Mexico, conditions remained cool in the mid-morning sun.

The opening group featured first race leader Dennis, who completed the first practice session on Friday afternoon.Dennis added to his strong start by climbing the first group.

He went fastest and entered the dual after posting 1min 06.492, where he was edged out by Müller, Bernard and Mortara - Mahindra's Nike de Vries last out.

It was a strong second group that included Rowland and Wehrlein, with the latter at the weekend taking pole in Mexico City.

However, it was not to be three in a row as Wehrlein made a surprise exit from the group stages, finishing sixth fastest in the second group.Rowland advanced, fourth.

At the top of the second group was Buemi, who impressed in the second training session and set the fastest lap time in the group stage with a time of 1 m 06.328 s. Ticktum and Evans also took part in the duels.

Rookie Pepe Marti was slower in the second group, but still starts last after a penalty kick at the net from the season opener.
