Even coach Dan Campbell could admit after the Lions' 31-24 Thanksgiving loss to the Packers that "we messed up a little bit" at 7-5 overall.

CampBell is honest in all his research when he tells the team in the locker room that the third opportunity is now open.
"As I told the team, 'It's boring, I know. We had a lot to be thankful for even after the loss.'And lo and behold, we fell into a little hole, which is the point."" We were in a bit of a hole, but that was it. Nothing more.
"So all we have to do is worry about cleaning this up and then finding a way to get the next game and win the next one."
Detroit is now 1-8 in its last nine games played on Thanksgiving Day.
Entering the contest, the Lions also faced injuries to key tight ends Sam Laporta and Brock Wright, in addition to wide receiver Kalif Raham Glasgow.Then All-Pro Receiver amon-ra St.Brown left the game in the first quarter with an ankle injury and did not return.
Campbell thinks St Brown could miss a week or two.
Without St. Cell, the veteran act of the squad Tom Kennededy bookped and played offense and special teams.Kennedy, who entered the active roster with an injury from Swords Practice tonight, finished with four catches for 36 yards.
Rookie Isaac Tesla also had his third touchdown of the season (and fifth overall) on a 17-yarder from QB Jared Goff with 7:25 left in the third quarter to cut the Lions' deficit to 24-21.
Teslaa, a native of Hudsonville, Michigan, is now a Lifelong Lions fan and is currently in his rookie season as a wide receiver at Arkansas.
However, it was fourth-year receiver Jameson Williams who hurt the Lions with a career-high 144 yards receiving and a touchdown.
Goff set his sights on Williams and knew he was in for a big day, especially with the lack of a team.But he wasn't proud of an incomplete short pass to Williams on fourth-and-3 with 10:55 left in the fourth quarter as the Lions trailed 31-21 trying to close the gap.
"I've got to connect with Jamo down there in the red zone," said Goff, who completed 20 of 26 passes.
Detroit has failed on fourth down twice against the Packers and is now 0-7 on fourth down through Week 11, tied for the most attempts in the league and by far the most attempts without a conversion (the Jets are next closest at 0-3), according to the study.
Campbell took on the role of serial killer hind fer fer fern in week 10 and felt he was "always good" in the role.
Detroit's most impressive day game is game 29 per game, but it's now the first time since 2022 that it's gone from its last seven games.
"In the end, look, we didn't win the game. But as much as I wanted to play this game offensively, that was my vision for it," Campbell said.“We just had to convert.
"The first two series we had, we had to find a way to convert on third down and then on fourth down, so you're talking about two or three games, in the end, against a good team, in that period that made the difference."
