Kate Cunningham scored 42 points, but Kate missed a game-tying free throw in the final seconds as the Pistons fell to the Celtics 117-114, snapping their 13-game winning streak.
BOSTON — Jaylen Brown, Derrick White and the Boston Celtics ended Detroit's franchise-record 13-game winning streak, defeating Cade Cunningham and the Pistons 117-114 on Wednesday night.
The Eastern Conference-leading Pistons had a chance to break the records they shared between 1989-90 and 2003-04.15-3 two seasons after losing streak of 28 to break NBA season record.
Brown had 33 points and 10 rebounds, and scored 11 of his 27 points in the final 4½ minutes to help the Celtics beat Cunningham's 42-point effort.
"We understand it's one game, and we also understand we didn't play our best basketball," Pistons coach J.B. said.Bickerstaff."There were things we could have done better and we still put ourselves in position to get them at the end of the game. So, you know, all those things add up. We're still learning and hopefully, you know, we're not as good now as we were in April."
With Detroit trailing by three, Cunningham followed near midcourt just as he was going for a 3-pointer.After a review, officers determined that he was in fact shooting.Cunningham hit the first two free throws but missed the third.Payton Pritchard grabbed a Boston rebound, was shocked when he hit two free throws with 2.4 seconds left.
Boston stole a pass before Detroit could attempt a potential 3-pointer.
"We all want tonight, we all want 14 wins," Cunningham said."I'm not going to act like it doesn't mean anything to us. It's a big deal. We all want to be in the history of it, but it didn't happen."
"We can't go back. I can't shoot a free throw again. We can't get up from 3 again. It's game over. It's about how we respond. There's a lot of season left to do big things. Our minds are here."
Pritchard scored 16 points to help the Celtics win for the fifth time in six games.
On Monday, Petterit won in Indiana to match the team record for most wins.
