Former Vikings tight ends coach Brian Angeli has been hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers as their new offensive coordinator.

The move reunites Angeligio with new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy, who worked with him in Green Bay from 2016 to 2018, when Angeligio was the tight ends coach.McCarthy also interviewed former Packers linebacker Scott Tolzien, now the New Orleans Saints' defensive backs coach, for the Steelers' offensive coordinator job.

McCarthy said last month that he calls bad plays for the Steelers.

Angelichio, 53, has spent most of his NFL career as a coach in charge of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, Washington Commanders and Carolina Panthers, as well as the Vikings.Although he is new to the Steelers organization, he has Pittsburgh experience, having worked for the Pittsburgh Panthers as an offensive assistant and tight ends coach from 2006-10.

Angelicchio has worked with some productive tight ends over the past four seasons in Minnesota in Kevin O'Connell, including T.J. Hockenson.

The Steelers' quarterback position remains fluid pending Aaron Rodgers' decision on his future, but Angeligio is expected to inherit an array of offensive players, including a diverse group. The Steelers not only have Pat Fryermuth, but also veteran Darnell Washington, a favorite target of Rodgers.

McCarthy has quickly assembled his coaching staff since signing a five-year contract on Jan.27. Not only did the Steelers bring in Angelichio, but defensive coordinator Patrick Graham; special teams coordinator Danny Crossman; assistant coach/head coach Joe Whitt; offensive line coach James Campen; assistant offensive line coach Jahri Evans; defensive backs coach Domata Peko; quarterbacks coach Henry and tight ends coach Patricia Reilly were hired as coaches.

McCarthy will retain quarterbacks coach Tom Arth, who has been with the Steelers since 2024.
