Shrine Bowl: Defensive prospects on Eastern roster for Packers

The Green Bay Packers selected two players who played in last year's East-West Shrine Bowl.Brian Gutekunst took Georgia defensive lineman Warren Brinson with the 198th overall pick and Cincinnati offensive lineman John Williams with the 250th overall.

Practice for the 2026 East-West Shrine Bowl began Friday morning in Frisco, Texas.Let's take a look at some of the defensive prospects on the East roster who may be on Green Bay's radar for the 2026 NFL Draft.

Darrell Jackson Jr, DT, FSU

Everyone knows Jackson has some "Y" stuff coming to Frisco this week.The Florida State defensive tackle is 6-5, 328 pounds with 35-inch arms.Jackson is a rock against the run and is strong in the offensive zone.He is used to doubling teams to keep the wingers clean.Over the past two seasons, Jackson has seven tackles for loss, 4.5.Recorded sacks, 44 pressures and 47 stops.

Brandon Cleveland, DT, Bang NC

At 6-2 and 322 pounds, Cleveland is a strong defender who can control his back end.He is powerful and has a quick first step to shoot the ball.He posted career highs in tackles for loss (seven) and stops (21).NC State's defensive tackles are more than just a roadblock;he has the active attributes to make splashes behind the line of scrimmage.

DeMonte Capehart, DT, Clemson

At 6-4 and 314 pounds, Capehart is a big man who can shut down indoor running lanes.With his size and strength, Capehart roots himself and takes up space.Clemson's defensive tackle has the power to get offensive linemen out of his way to make plays behind the line of scrimmage.During his sixth and final season with the Tigers, Capehart recorded three tackles for loss and a career-high 14 run stops.

Lander Barton, LB, Utah

Marvin Jones Jr, Edge, Oklahoma

At 6-4, 257 pounds, Jones has an ideal frame.He's just never been able to put it all together, but there are occasional flashes that could turn him into a potential Day 3 lottery pick. The Georgia transfer has above-average first-step speed and can turn speed into power in jar blocks.The tools are there to break through, and with the Packers possibly in the market for defensive end depth, he could be an ideal target.

Red Murdock, LB, Buffalo

Murdoch is a sharp defender.He works fearlessly on downhills and isn't afraid to throw his body around.Over the past two seasons, the Buffalo linebacker has recorded 30 tackles for loss and 119 stops.Murdoch doesn't sit back, he leads the fight on offense, and that style of play will be a welcome addition to Green Bay's defense.
