The Buffalo Bills continue their coaching search Friday by interviewing a familiar name: former Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel.McDaniel will interview in person with team executives and is one of several candidates the team plans to talk to this weekend in a recruiting process that will have "significant talk" from quarterback Josh Allen.
McDaniel is slated to become the Los Angeles Chargers' offensive coordinator if he doesn't take the head coaching job.Along with the Bills, McDaniel met with the Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders and Tennessee Titans.The offensive-minded coach returned from the Browns' investigation and the only place left in his previous interviews is in Las Vegas, where he just fired Pete Carroll.
The Bills fired nine-year coach Sean McDermott after an AFC divisional playoff loss to the Denver Broncos.McDermott won five AFC East titles and reached the postseason in all but one of his seasons, but a lack of playoff success, including a Super Bowl failure, ultimately led to his firing.
McDaniel was fired Jan. 8 after four roller-coaster years as Miami's coach.The 42-year-old went 35-33 in the regular season and 0-2 in the playoffs.The Dolphins made the postseason in his first two seasons, but went 8-9 in 2024 before falling to 7-10 this season.back.He was the San Francisco 49ers' offensive coordinator in 2021 before landing in Miami, and if he can't land the top job, he'll return to the West Coast with the Chargers.
The Bills have several other head coaching interviews set for the weekend.They are interviewing Washington Commanders run game coordinator Anthony Lynn and former Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver on Saturday and Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinsky on Sunday.
Buffalo has already completed interviews with offensive coordinator Joe Brady and former New York Giants coach Brian Daboll, who will be the 2018-2021 coach. He spent seasons as Buffalo's offensive coordinator.Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo also reportedly interviewed with the team this week.
