Texas general manager Nick Caserio addressed the trade talk about quarterback C.J. calling Stroud "moronic."
INDIANAPOLIS -- Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio called the trade talk about quarterback C.J.Stroud "stupid."
At the NFL scouting combine, Caserio shot down rumors that Stroud might be moving and confirmed his commitment to the fourth-year quarterback.
"We're not trading the guy. He's our quarterback," Caserio said Tuesday."He will be playing quarterback for the Houston Texans in 2026."
Stroud's name appeared online in trade speculation after a seven-turnover playoff run, highlighted by a four-interception outing in a 28-16 divisional round loss to the New England Patriots.
The 2023 No.2 draft pick just finished his third season, throwing for 19 touchdowns while completing 64.5% of his throws for 3,041 yards and 8 interceptions in 14 games.
The Ohio State standout missed three games with a concussion he suffered in Week 9 against the Denver Broncos. He is eligible for a contract extension, but Caserio has yet to offer insight into whether the organization will extend him.
And although it was an efficient season as the Texans started 9-5 in the regular season for Stroud, the overall production fell short of his breakout rookie year.
In 2023, Stroud became the fifth rookie to pass for 4,000 yards in a season and the first Ohio State running back to be named to the Pro Bowl.He led the NFL in touchdown to interception ratio (23 to 4).
There is constant speculation about how to revive that Stroud product. But based on Caserio's comments, the Texans are trying to do that, not another team.
"He's a great player and won a lot of football games," Caserio said."Quarterback is the hardest position to play in sports. He's had some ups and downs, which is natural as a position, but overall, he's had a pretty significant impact on who we are as a program. ... He's not going anywhere."
