Breaking down the advanced stats of Mammoth Capitals.Chris Cerullo breaks down the numbers for Morning After analyzing expected goals (kG), shot attempts (corsi), ice time and more.

The Washington Capitals walked into Delta Center and punched the Utah Mammoth in the mouth, literally and figuratively. After a night of shenanigans, the Caps won 7-4 and drove the Mammoths crazy in the process.

If you're a random Western Conference team, look up.The Capitals will have beef with you.

- I don't think it's really worth trying to analyze the 5-on-5 analysis because this match was a complete mess. The Capitals had a good first half, a very bad second half, and a good second half, ultimately scoring seven goals in an incredibly entertaining game. Can't really complain about that.I'm going to put up with pointless boredom for the next few weeks, when the game has little meaning.

- Alex Ovechkin scores his 34th career hat trick.I went over all the other amazing history behind those three goals in the hat trick post, so please read that if you haven't.I really hope this isn't the last Ovechkin hat trick we see in the NHL, but if it is, I sure enjoyed it.I hope you are too.

- The Mammoths tried to beat the Capitals by playing the Tom Wilson game, but the problem was that there was only one Tom Wilson, and he was on the Capitals.Wilson absolutely beat the Mammoths, who couldn't win against the Caps even though they got a lot of help from some terrible officiating.McBain has learned not to appreciate a pass now.Don't let anyone tell you that the hit isn't as clean as a whistle, because it is.

- Ivan Miroshnichenko recorded his first career multi-goal game, and his second goal was huge and really turned the game in Washington's favor.Overall, Miroshnichenko finished the night with an ice time of 9:45, two goals, three shots and one block.Hendrix Lapierre also performed well on this line, assisting Miro's first goal.

- A broken record at this point, but Logan Thompson was smart again despite conceding four goals.Thompson made 36 stops of the 40 shots he faced, and per MoneyPak, he still saved 1.25 more goals than expected. He should be the runaway Vezina Trophy winner at this point, but NHL GMs vote on that award, so it will go to the playmaker.qualification

- Cole Hutson scored his third career point on a goal by Anthony Beauvillier.I thought Beauvilliers shined the entire game, but Hutson was shaky and it was good to play for a rookie defenseman.Hutson finished the night with 14:55 ice time, one assist and three shotsWith five-on-five men on the ice, the Capitals did not concede a single dangerous chance and recorded four.
