All is forgiven?UFC 325 fighter makes public apology after caught cheating at weigh-in: 'I had a job... I didn't do it'
Tau, who failed in his first attempt to enter the UFC after losing at Dana White's Contender Series in 2024, was hoping to punch his ticket to the promotion by winning the Road to UFC Finals this weekend. The New Zealander has been on a winning streak during the competition and looks set to live up to his promise and become the next fighter to move from City Kickboxing to the UFC.
Unfortunately, Tau didn't even make it Saturday night.Because the 32-year-old fighter officially weighed in on Friday.Tau first tried to take a page out of Daniel Cormier's book and rely on the privacy box to shed a few pounds, but his weight of 122.5 caused some concern. The panel then weighed Tau again without the privacy box and he tipped the scales at 129 pounds, well over the flight weight limit.
As a result, Tau's bout against Namsray Batbayar was pulled from the UFC 325 card.
On Friday night, Tau took to social media to issue an official apology for the shameless lack of performance he showed in the ins.Tau doesn't offer a good apology, but he also doesn't accept the fact that he didn't do his job.
Check it out below:
"I must apologize to my opponent, the UFC, my team and my fans. Even if I pushed in the end, I had a job to do in weight and fight. I did not do it. I'm sorry," Tau wrote via Instagram.
