TAMPA, Fla. -- Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov each had a goal and an assist as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 on Saturday night.
Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour coached his 600th career game for the franchise and won his 367th career game, the most for a coach at 600 games, surpassing Tampa Bay's Jon Cooper, who set the previous record of 364.
Jordan Martinok was shutout in the third period, while Frederic Andersen stopped 17 shots. Logan Stankoven added another goal.
Yanni Jordi and Charles-Edouard Dastos scored for Tampa Bay, which fell to 3-7 since the Olympic break.Andrei Vasilevskiy finished with 31 saves.
Martinuk hit the inside of the far post at 9:18 of the third period when he threw a puck from outside the left circle to the net that hit the inside of Viktor Hedman's pants.
The Hurricanes scored in the game's opening period on a delayed penalty.After Svechnikov was denied on a close call, he was left alone in the early going moments later only to be found by Aho with 36 seconds to play.
The two players were linked again late in the first period when Ago was stopped on a breakaway chance but stayed on the edge of the net for Svechnikov, who sent in a quick header.
It was the third time in three meetings this season that Carolina scored the first goal against Tampa Bay.
But the Lightning bounced back with two goals in the second period.
