LOS ANGELES (KABC) - After more than 100 hours of designing, sewing and hand-beading, a piece of gold fabric was transformed into a stunning gold medal look for Olympic figure skater Alyssa Liu.

"It's an incredible feeling to now be a small part of Alice's history," said Lisa McKinnon, owner of Lisa McKinnon Designs.

Wearing that gorgeous gold dress and performing Donna Summer's "MacArthur Park," Liu won a gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics in women's singles — the first American woman to do so in 24 years.

"It's fantastic," said tailor Sidney Piggott. It's really amazing."

"I'm glad we're all coming together to make her feel good and make her look like a million bucks," said Kayla Anderson, head stylist and seamstress.

McKinnon is responsible for the dress and has a personal connection to the historic moment. He started figure skating when he was about three years old and wanted to continue skating professionally.

Then she discovered her love for drawing, making her own dresses from the age of 11.That's how he founded his company in 2014.

"Then people just started calling for ski wear," he recalled."So, I said, 'You know what? I think there's a business in this.'

MacKinnon says every athlete is different.

Liu was consulted. After figuring out what he was looking for, McKinnon put on his headphones and got down to business.

"You know, like flirty fun, but at the same time, classically beautiful with a hint of disco and then just dripping with gold," she explained the inspiration behind the design."We just went for it. Like, let's go for the gold all the way."

When Liu took the stage, this vision was literally dripping with gold.
