All 30 MLB Lines Ranked Before Opening Day 2026 - The Athletic

Here are all 30 of the projected daily lineups, from best (Los Angeles Dodgers) to worst (Colorado Rockies).

Opening Day is right around the corner, so to help cover the big sports game, let's debate, discuss and analyze each team's theme from best (Dodgers again) to worst (Rocks). We will do the same with the first rotation tomorrow.

Here's how I rank the opening day lineups for all 30 teams as the 2026 season rolls around.

1. Los Angeles Dodgers

2025 Runs Will Lead: 825 Rank: 2

Key additions: Kyle Tucker, RF (free agent)

Main Cons: None

Breakout Candidat: Andy Pages, OF

Prospect-horloge: Josue De Paula, OF; Zyhir Hope, OF

The back-to-back World Series champions had an All-Star lineup led by three future Hall of Famers, Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman. They added free agent no.1, by Kyle Tucker, who was an All-Star for four straight seasons and won two Silver Slugger Awards and a Gold Glove.

It's the deepest lineup in the game with power throughout the game, including the emerging Andy Page, who hit 27 homers last year, and Teoscar Hernandez, who added 25. Will Smith and Max Munsey, both known for their clutch hitting, are one of the best in the game. The Dodgers also have two of their best prospects (Josso De Paula and Zaire Hope);De Paula will likely be ready to help the big league team this summer if needed.

2. New York "Yankees".

in 2025runs scored: 849 Rank: 1st

Main addition: none

Basic losses: No

Challengers: Ben Rice, 1B/C, Austin Wells, C, Anthony Volpe, SS.

Prospect watch: Spencer Jones, OF; George Lombard Jr., SS

The Yankees are led by captain Aaron Hakim, the best hitter in the sport. In order to continue to keep him in the lineup, their top priority this offseason is the return of free agent Cody Bellinger.Once they re-sign Bellinger, they are guaranteed to run the same 94 game winning team again in 2025.

This team and lineup has a better chance than last year.Three young players are poised to have breakout seasons: Ben Rice, Austin Wells and Anthony Volpe, although Volpe's recovery from offseason left shoulder surgery will delay the start of the season. He is expected to begin playing rehab games in mid-April.In addition, second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr., who last year was 30-30 playing for a contract extension, bringing more energy, excitement and fun to the clubhouse after joining the club. He's looking for a $300 million-plus contract and needs another season to get it.

Trent Grisham is coming off a career-best season that came after making mechanical adjustments at the plate.Giancarlo Stanton's workload needs to be managed, but he can still hit for power.Third baseman Ryan McMahon, in addition to playing an elite third base, is starting to make mechanical adjustments of his own that could lead to Grisham-like offensive improvements.

The Yankees have two prospects to reach the big leagues in Spencer Jones and George Lombard Jr., as well as youngster Jason Dominguez, who will start the season in Triple A but is ready for any opportunity in the Yankees' outfield. All three will become more offensive and competitive for the Yankees' lineup when they reach their potential.

3. Baltimore Orioles

2025 scored: 677 Rank: 24

Key additions: Pete Alonso, 1B (free agent);Taylor Ward, LF (Business)

Major loss: None

Pitchers: Adley Rutschman, C;Jackson Vacation, 2B;Colton Cowser, CF

Starting Hours: Samuel Bassalo, C/DH;Dylan Beavers, OF

Prospect Watch: Enrique Bradfield Jr., CF

The Orioles are coming off a below-average offensive season this season, but will have one of the best rosters in baseball this year. They made a game-changing right-handed power play when they signed Pete Alonso in free agency and traded for Taylor Ward. Not only will these two bring more power, but their presence will also take a lot of pressure off the Orioles' young power hitters.

Gunnar Henderson is still their best player overall. Even in a down year, he still hit 17 homers, stole 30 bags and had a 35% on-base percentage last season. The key to this offense, however, will be if Adley Rutschman, Jackson Holliday and Colton Cowser reach their ceilings. The lineup should also be bolstered by two of the best rookie pitchers in the league: Samuel Basallo, who can hit the ball as well as anyone, and Dylan Beavers, who have really turned heads in spring training. They also have legitimate backups in Kobe Mayo, Ryan Mountcastle and Tyler O'Neal.

4. Toronto Blue Jays

2025 Run Score: 798 Place: 4th

Key players: Kazuma Okamoto, 3B (free agent / NPB);Jesus Sánchez, NA (Commerce)

Key losses: Bo Bichette, SS

Breakout Candidate: Addison Berger, RF

Prospect Watch: JoJo Parker, S;Arjun Nimmala, S

The defending American League champion Blue Jays have built an elite offense that combines high contact rates with power.Superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and veteran George Springer are coming off one of the best years of their careers at age 36.

This lineup lost Bo Bechette in free agency, which is a significant blow.Bechet led the league in hits twice, and his close relationship with Guerrero was a unique part of the team's identity. The Jays replaced their bat with Japanese free agent Kazuma Okamoto, who fits the Jays' profile with contact skills and power, but is below average at third base.may be

A big reason the Blue Jays won the pennant last season was the depth of their lineup, as Ernie Clement, Alejandro Kirk, Daulton Varsho and Andrés Giménez left no weak spots for opposing pitchers to attack.Everyone is coming back this season.

The Jays suffered a setback this spring when Anthony Santander had to undergo shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum, but they managed to rebuild by trading for Jesús Sánchez, who should provide league-level performance. This lineup moves the chains very well, but to maximize their potential, the Blue Jays will need more home runs from Guerrero, Barger and Okamoto.

5. Atlanta Braves

2025 Number of races entered: 724 Ranking: 13th place

Notable additions: Mike Yastrzemski, LF/DH (free agent);Mauricio Dubón, SS (trade)

Key losses: Marcell Ozuna, DH;Jurickson Profar, LF

Candidates: Michael Harris II, CF

WATCH: Tate Southison, SS/OF;Alex Lodis, SS

It's hard to believe that an entire roster can accomplish so little in one season, but that's what happened last year in Atlanta.I predict it won't happen two years in a row.Offensive leader Ronald Acuña Jr. is far removed from his recent ACL surgery and should be healthy enough to return to his MVP-caliber production.Austin Riley should get back to his normal home run range of 35-40.

Michael Harris shook off a terrible first half and hit well in the second half to join the 20-20 club last year.He needs to build on that strong connection and get better (and more consistent) production this year.Ozzie Albies needs to rebuild his game in his free agent year.

Aside from Murphy, who could be back in May, the Braves face some major disruptions in the lineup.Shortstop Ha-Seong Kim — who they re-signed to a one-year contract this offseason after being acquired last September — will miss the start of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a tendon in his right middle finger in January.Atlanta will be without left guard Jurikson Proffer for the rest of the season after he received a 162-game suspension for a second PED positive test.will be

6. I-New York Mets

Scored in 2025: 766 Rank: Tied for 9th

Key additions: Beau Bichette, 3B (free agency);Jorge Polanco, 1B/DH (free agency);Luis Robert Jr., CF (commerce);Marcus Semien, 2B (trade)

Key losses: Pete Alonso, 1B;Jeff McNeil, 2B;Brandon Nimmo, OF;Marte Starling, RF

Breakout Candidates: Brett Batey IF/OF;Francisco Alvarez, C;Mark Vientos 1B/3B

Rookie watch: Carson Benge, RF

Prospetto di guardia: Ryan Clifford, 1B/OF;A.J.Ewing, 2B/OF;Jacob Reimer 1B/3B

The Mets rebuilt their lineup this season in a controversial way, parting ways with many of their favorites. When the dust settles, however, they will build a better line-up to get out at bats, put the ball in and put up more runs.

The biggest hit is the addition of Bo Bichette, who brings his power and contact skills to the National League for the first time as he moves to third base.Francisco Lindor leads off, Juan Soto collects plenty of RBIs at second, and Bichette bats for the team at third.Lindor broke his hamate early in the spring, but hasn't seen much (if any) of the regular season.Don't miss it.He had a 30-30 season last year, though a hamstring injury may have affected his power early in the season.Soto continues to lead the offense after compiling a 6.2 bWAR last season.

Other additions to the lineup include Jorge Polanco, who hit 26 homers last year, Luis Robert Jr., who is looking to return to his All-Star form in 2023 with Soto's help especially on his plate discipline, and second baseman Marcus Semien, who is losing strikes but still puts together a solid at bat and is a plus in the field.

The Mets have three standout candidates: Francisco Alvarez, Brett Batty and Mark Ventus. If two of the three can figure it out, the Mets will be in good shape. I also think rookie right fielder Carson Bing will surprise people and compete for the NL Rookie of the Year award.

7. Chicago Cubs

Score 2025: 793 Rank: 5th

Key additions: Alex Bergman, 3B (free agent)

Key losses: Kyle Tucker, RF;Owen Caissie, RF

Start time: Moisés Ballesteros, C/DH/1B

Prospects to watch: Ethan Conrad, OF;Kevin Alcantara, OF;Jefferson Rojas, 2B/SS

The Cubs lost right fielder Kyle Tucker to the Dodgers but made a big splash by landing third baseman Alex Bregman. In addition to his strong bat, Bregman gives the Cubs a significant presence in the clubhouse with other players willing to help, and that should have a positive impact on the deep roster.

Pete Crowe-Armstrong is working to be more consistent this year after seeing his production drop significantly in the second half after a very strong first half. However, even with his second-half struggles, he was worth 6.0 bWAR thanks to his power, speed and excellent defense in center field.

Michael Bush and Seiya Suzuki will try to repeat their 30-plus home run seasons, although Suzuki will not start during the season after injuring his knee in the World Baseball Classic.Nico Hoerner is looking to have his best season in the year of the free-agent walk. His doubles partner, the consistent Dansby Swanson, will try to repeat his 20-20 season.Rookie-designated power hitter Moises Ballesteros should be a strong team bat against right-handed hitters and could be the key to the bottom third of this lineup.

The Cubs will look to win the ball, elite defense and attack with that balance.

8. Milwaukee Breweries

2025 Tournament Score: 806 Ranking: 3rd place

Key additions: David Hamilton, INF (trade);Luis Rengifo, INF (free agent);Gary Sánchez, C/DH (free agent)

Key Losses: Isaac Collins, OF;Caleb Durbin, INF;St. Andrews Monastery, INF

Exclusive Candidate: Jackson Churio, OF.

Rookie-ur: Jett Williams, INF/OF

Hodinkee Prospect: Jesus Maid, SS;Luis Peña, INF;Cooper Pratt, SS;Andrew Fisher, 3B;Jefferson Quero, C

The Brewers won the most games in the regular season last year and have one of the best minor league systems in the sport, led by prospect Jesús Made.Their lineup is one of the most athletic in the game and features six hitters coming off double-digit stolen base seasons and six hitters coming off double-digit home run seasons.

Jackson Churio hit 21 homers and stole 21 bases despite injuries last season and still hasn't reached his potential.Brice Turang might be the best second baseman in the game, and 34-year-old Christian Yelich is hitting for power and performing well now that his back is finally healthy.William Contreras is one of the best offensive catchers in the game, while speedy outfielders Sal Frelick and Garrett Mitchell are winning players who run and defend well.

The Brewers made a big move this offseason, dealing ace Freddy Peralta to the Mets, but got a solid return that included versatile Jett Williams, who will compete for playing time in the infield and outfield.

9. Boston Red Sox

in 2025run: 786 run: 7 run

Keys: Wilson Contras, 1B (Commerce);Caleb Durbin, 2B/3B (Commerce); Andrew Monasterio; 1B/3B (Commerce);Isiah Keener-Falefa; INF (free agent)

Key loss: Alex Bregman, 3B

Runaway candidates: Roman Anthony, LF.Sedanne Raffaella, CF.Marcelo Mayer, 2B

كۆرۈش: SS Franklin Franklin Arias; Justin Gonzales, OF; Dorian Soto, SS;

The Red Sox lost Alex Bregman in free agency, which hurts the team both on the field and in the clubhouse. They replaced most of his offensive production by trading Willson Contreras, who finally brings stability to the first base position. They also added third baseman Caleb Durbin in a trade with the Brewers. He is a solid player who performs beyond his means, and his strength should be helped by the Green Monster.

The key to the Red Sox lineup is the development of young star Roman Anthony, who looks like he could be one of the best players in the sport. The rest of the outfield is also elite with center fielder Ceddanne Rafael and right fielder Wilyer Abreu, two plus defenders who hit for power and work well.

Jarren Duran is currently their best overall hitter with his potent combination of power and speed.Shortstop Trevor Story is finally healthy and coming off his best season with the Red Sox, while second baseman Marcelo Mayer continues to develop at a rapid pace. This offense is a lot better than people give it credit for.

10. Philadelphia Phillies

2025 Run Score: 778 Rank: 8th

Key additions: Adolis García, RF (free agent)

Key losses: Nick Castellanos, RF

Seated rookie: Justin Crawford, CF

Prospect Watch: Aidan Miller, SS;Francisco Renteria, OF

The Phillies' biggest offseason move was bringing back Kyle Schwarber, whose hitting and leadership skills are both irreplaceable for this club. This allowed Philadelphia to return to basically the same lineup as last year.

Leadoff Trea Turner continues to mature at the plate, as evidenced by his .304 average, 15 homers and 36 steals last year.Bryce Harper was down last season by his standards, but he still hit 27 homers and seems poised to excel in the 2026 season.

The Phillies will get a new right fielder after releasing Nick Castellanos and replacing him with Adolis García.García is a better outfielder than Castellanos, but he will be with the Rangers next year. The Phillies will also have a new face in center field, rookie Justin Crawford, who will get the job to be a long-term solution there. He has great speed and range in the outfield, but he will need to get on base and steal bases from the bottom of the lineup for the Phillies to be better in this one.year.

Veterans Alec Bohm, Bryson Stott and J.T.Realmuto have all stepped up, although Stott is having an impressive spring and could be a surprise. The X-factor could be rookie Aidan Miller, who hurt his back this spring but could be an improvement over time in the infield at some point this year.In general, it's still a bullpen-caliber streak.

11. Seattle Mariners

2025 Runs Scored: 766 Ranking: Tied for 9th

Key additions: Brendan Donovan, 2B/3B (trade);Rob Rapsnyder, OF (free agent);Andrew Nizener, C (Free Agent)

Significant losses: Jorge Polanco, 2B / DH;Eugenio Suarez, 3B

Breakout Candidates: Cole Young, 2B;Victor Robles, RF

Guard positions: Colt Emerson, SS;Lazaro Montes, OF;Michael Arroyo, 2B

AL MVP runner-up Cal Raleigh leads the Mariners' offense after becoming the first catcher in MLB history to belt 60 homers in a single season.Julio Rodriguez will try to get off to a fast start, something he hasn't been able to do in his career.More consistency in April/May could lead to an MVP season for Rodriguez.

The Mariners' main goal in the offseason was to bring back Josh Naylor and add a leadoff hitter, and they managed to do both.Naylor, who signed a five-year, $92.5 million deal, brings power, on-base skills and the ability to hit first base for average.

Randy Arozarena should add to his normal 20 home runs and 20 steals, while Victor Robles will try to stay healthier than he was last season. Crawford, a strong defender, is in his free agency year and is looking for a more consistent performance at the plate. He had a right shoulder injury this spring and could miss opening day.main

Number of runs in 2025: 733 Rank: 12th place

Key additions: Jeff McNeill, 2B (trade)

Key Losses: None

Breakout Candidate: Lawrence Butler, RF

Prospective Hours: Leo De Vries, SS;Henry Bolt, OF

The Athletics are building a strong core and trying to sign as many as possible to extensions as they prepare to move to Las Vegas in 2028. AL Rookie of the Year Nick Kurtz has quickly become one of the best first base hitters in the game, while left fielder Tyler Soderstrom found and earned his defensive streak last season.

Last season, Jacob Wilson made the All-Star team and hit .311, Shea Langlais finished second to Cal Raleigh in homers as a leadoff hitter, and Brent Rucker had another 30-man All-Star season.Lawrence Butler had a 20-20 season, but it was something of a downturn for him after a strong 2024 season. He played through a knee injury and had surgery in the offseason. If he's healthy, he could be a standout player. The trade acquisition of Jeff McNeil should give the team much better production from second base.(A's second basemen had an OPS of .550 last season.)

It's a strong line that will be together for years to come and will only get better.

13. San Diego Padres

2025 Runs: 702 Rank: 18th

Key Additions: Nick Castellanos, 1B/OF/DH (free agent);Miguel Andujar, OF/DH (free agent);Sung-Mun Song, INF (free agent/KBO posting)

Key losses: Ryan O'Hearn, 1B/OF;Luis Arrayes, 2B;Martin Maldonado, K

Breakout Candidates: Jackson Merrill, CF

Goalkeepers: Ethan Salas, C;Jorge Quintana, SS;Ty Harvey, C;Ryan Wideman, no

The Padres have a solid core lineup, led by speed-power threat Fernando Tatis Jr., clubhouse leader Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill, who is coming off an injury-plagued season but still has the advantage of being an impact player.

Veterans Xander Bogaerts and Jake Cronenworth sandwich an elite trio, adding Loro Ambane and leadership. The Padres tried to use veteran players like Ramon Laureno, Miguel Andujar, Gavin Sheets and Nick Castellanos to leave the lineup. This could be the key to the way the group is called ngasilake.

This is a good enough lineup to return to the playoffs as a wild card team.

14. Detroit Tigers

2025 Runs: 758 Rank: 11th

Key Additions: None

Major losses: None

Outfieldři: Kerry Carpenter, OF; Colt Keith, INF

Rookie Watch: Kevin McGonigal, SS

Pozisyon gad yo: Max Clark, CF;Bryce Rainer, SS;Josue Briceño, C/1B;Max Anderson, INF

The Tigers get their lineup's strength primarily from Riley Greene, who has improved year over year in the big leagues, and Spencer Torkelson, who matched his career-high with 31 goals last season.Breakout prospect Kerry Carpenter is one of the best right-handed hitters in the league and is starting to perform better against lefties as well.

Kevin McGonigle would be my first choice for AL Rookie of the Year.In my opinion, he has the best offensive tools expected in baseball as well as defense and downfield.Gleyber Torres makes cars on top of the team.

15. Houston Astros

Score 2025: 686 Rank: 21st

Key additions: Joey Loperfido, OF (trade);Nick Allen, SS (trading)

Goal Aldagdal: Jesús Sánchez, OF

Outfielders: Cam Smith, OF

Rookie watch: Zach Cole, OF

Prospects to watch: Bryce Matthews, 2B/OF; Kevin Alvarez, OF; Lucas Spence, OF; Ethan Frey, OF; Xavier Nayens, SS; Walker Janek, C

Driving the offensive brew for the Astros is Jordan Alvarez, who is coming off an injury-plagued 2025 season but if he can stay healthy, he should be the best hit and run producer in the game.

The Astros have some age and decline risk in right, as first baseman Christian Walker and second baseman Jose Altuve will play most of the season at age 35. Third baseman Carlos Correa is also injury-prone, but they have depth with Isaac Paredes.Shortstop Jeremy Peña, currently recovering from a broken right ring finger, was the top all-around player in batting average, power, stolen bases and defense.Catcher Yainer Diaz is coming off a 20-home run season, which could be a repeat for him.

Ultimately, how well the Astros do this season will depend on what they get out of their outfield, which has plenty of potential with young players like Cam Smith, Zach Cole and Joey Loperfido.Their farm system also has some prospects ready to contribute, including Brice Matthews and Lucas Spence.

16. Kansas City Royals

2,025 goals scored: 651 points: 26th

Key additions: Isaac Collins, WA (Commerce);Lane Thomas, WA (free agent);Starling Marte, WA (free agent)

Key Losses: None

Breakout Candidate: Jac Caglianone, RF/1B

Nres Clock: Carter Jensen, C

Toktoit Prospect: Blake Mitchell, S;Sean Gamble, OF/2B

The Royals moved the fences at Kauffman Stadium 10 feet and now expect the ballpark to play fairer. That's great news for the Royals hitters, led by this year's AL MVP nominee, Bobby Witt Jr. He has a 50-50 chance to one day join the club and we were all reminded of how good his defense was during the WBC.

WBC MVP Michael Garcia made the first of many All-Star teams last season, while Vinny Pasquantino and Salvador Perez are both coming off 30-homer seasons.Jack Caglianone had a rough rookie season, but has 25-plus homer potential and should be better in his second time in the league.

The Royals' offseason pickups of Lane Thomas, Isaac Collins and Starling Marte give the team better righty-lefty balance and leadoff opportunities for Kyle Isbell and Caligiano in the outfield. The key to the offense could be catcher Carter Jensen, who will hit for power and be one of the best starters in the AL this year. This is a quietly strong lineup that will only get better.

17. Arizona Diamondbacks

2025 Most Runs: 791 Rank: 6

Key additions: Nolan Arenado, 3B (trade);Carlos Santana, 1B/DH (free agent)

Key losses: Jake McCarthy, OF

Breakout nominees: Jordan Lollar, CF;Gabriel Moreno, C;

Outlook: Ryan Waldschmidt, OF; Kayson Cunningham, SS; Slade Caldwell, OF

The Diamondbacks traded away Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suárez at last year's trade deadline and have yet to replace that power, which is why they've declined so much at the position. However, I still love the top of their lineup.Corbin Carroll tore his hamstring in spring training, but he's back hitting homers. When healthy, he's still one of the best players in the game with speed and power to burn, though like Lindor, his power may decline soon as he continues to recover from injuries.

Geraldo Perdomo, who finished fourth in the NL MVP voting last year, and Ketel Marte form a powerful trio with Carroll.Marte has been a rumored trade candidate all winter, but it's good for the roster that he's still on the team, as he's been the D-Bucks' best hitter over the past five seasons.

The rest of the lineup without those three worries me because they rely on declining veterans to pick up the slack, including 39-year-old Carlos Santana and 34-year-old Nolan Arenado.Catcher Gabriel Moreno has more and more upside and is a breakout candidate.Another potential breakout player to watch is Jordan Lawler, who was moved from the infield to center field and I still think he has All-Star potential if he gets the chance.

18. San Francisco Giants

2025 races scored: 705 Ranking: 17th

Key additions: Luis Arraez, 2B (free agent);Harrison Bader, CF (free agency)

Significant Losses: None

Breakout candidates: Heliot Ramos, LF;Jung Hoo Lee, RF

Rookie Guard: Bryce Aldridge, 1B/DH

WATCH: Josuar Gonzalez, SS;Luis Hernandez, SS;Johnny Level, SS;Gavin Killen, INF.

The Giants' offense is led by Rafael Devers and Willy Adames, who had 30 home runs last season.Devers joined the Giants in a trade midway through last season, so this will be the first time San Francisco has used his bat for a full year.Heliot Ramos and Matt Chapman also strengthen the squad;Jung Hoo Lee and Luis Arraez bring elite contact skills.First, it should add traffic to the top of the rankings. The Giants also expanded the roster by adding Harrison Bader, who had his best offensive season last year.

The key to their offense could be rookie Bryce Aldridge, who has elite power but also has holes in his swing that he needs to mitigate. He will start the season in Triple A but is expected to see significant playing time with the Giants this year.

19. Cincinnati Reds

2025 author: gol urilang: 716 author: o'rin: 14-o'rin

Special Additions: Eugenio Suarez, DH/1B (free agent);JJ Bleday, OF (free agent);Dane Myers, OF (trade)

face Key: Gavin Lux, INF/OF

Breakout Candidates: Noelvi Marte, RF;Matt McLain, 2B

Rookie Watch: Sal Stewart, 1B

Prospect Watch: Alfredo Duno, C;Steele Hall, SS;Tyson Lewis, SS/3B;Hector Rodriguez, OF;Cam Collier, 3B;Edwin Arroyo, SS

The Reds' offense is led by Allie De La Cruz, who has been injured all year but still managed to hit .264 with 22 home runs and 37 steals. He still hasn't reached his potential as a striker.to give

Key to the lineup, however, will be rookie Sal Stewart, who hits the ball consistently and should produce from the start, and Novi Marte, one of my top prospects in the league. Both players are future All-Star sluggers.

20. Texas Rangers

2025 Race Closed: 684th Place: 22nd Place

Key additions: Brandon Nimmo, RF (trade);Danny Jansen, center (free agent);Andrew McCutchen, OF (free agent)

Pérdidas clave: Marcus Semien, 2B;Adolis García, RF

Emerging Candidate: Evan Carter, WA

Prospects to watch: Sebastian Walcott, 3B (Furtatu); Gavin Fien, INF

The Rangers' offense was one of the biggest disappointments of the 2025 season, as veterans Adolis Garcia and Marcus Semien failed enough for Texas to move on from them this offseason and veteran free agents Jake Burger and Joc Pederson were in full swing.

Texas is led by World Series MVP Corey Seager and senior Wyatt Langford. The Rangers acquired Brandon Nimmo and his 28th home run from the Mets in the Semien trade and are hoping that a healthy Evan Carter can develop into an All-Star player.

Rangers top prospect Sebastian Walcott had Tommy John surgery on his throwing elbow and is out for the year, a real setback for his development.

21. Pittsburgh Pirates

2025 Marks: 583 Rank: 30th

Key additions: Brandon Lowe, 2B (trade);Ryan O'Hearn, 1B/DH/OF (free agent);Marcell Ozuna, DH (free agent);Jhostynxon Garcia, OF (Trade);Jake Mangum, OF (trade)

Key Loss: Andrew McCutchen, OF

Novichok Watch: Connor Griffin;SS,Jostinkson Garcia, OF

Prospects Watch: Edward Florentino, OF/1B;Tramer Johnson, 2B;Wyatt Sanford, SS

After football ended last year, the Pirates did something for the first time in a long time. They were very aggressive in trades and free agency and significantly improved their lineup.Since 2018, they seem to be in good shape.

In the trade, they acquired 30-home run second baseman Brandon Lowe from the Rays and top outfielder Josteenson Garcia from the Red Sox.in free agencyThey signed Ryan O'Hearn and Marcell Ozuna, adding an action producer to the middle of the lineup.

Even though he didn't make the team out of training camp, baseball's top prospect Connor Griffin could still be a major factor for the Pirates this season, and Garcia will also start the season in the minors. The offense is much improved and the Bucks will make plays again.

22. Miami Marlins

Runscore 2025: 709 Rang: 16e

Key additions: Owen Caissie, OF (trade);Christopher Morel, 1B (free agent);Dillon Lewis, CF (commerce);Esteury Ruiz, OF (commerce)

Major cons: None

Breakout candidates: Agustin Ramirez, c

New version: Owen Caissie, OF;Joe Mack, C

Prospectcloak: Aiva Arquette, SS;Cam Cannarella, OF;Kemp Alderman, OF;Dillon Lewis, OF;Andrew Salas, INF/OF;Brandon Compton, OF;Santiago Solarte, SS

The Marlins have built their roster primarily through trade, but the process is still a work in progress.Jakob Marsee and Xavier Edwards are in the leadoff spot and stole 41 bases last year, and could have more this year.In between are Kyle Stowers and Agustín Ramírez, who have combined for 36 homers and could hit 60 this year.

The bottom of the lineup has questions, especially in the first base, where Christopher Morel, Liam Hicks, Graham Pauley and Griffin Conine are fighting for playing time, and in the third, where Connor Norby is penced in, but may be better in the second.Norby could also see time in the outfield. One of the keys to his lineup could be Owen Caissie, who has mentioned the return of Edward Cabrera this season.

23. Tampa Bay Rays

2025 run score: 714 Rank: 15th

Key additions: Cedric Mullins, CF (free agency);Jacob Melton, OF (trade);Gavin Lux, INF (trade);Jake Fraley, OF (trade);Ben Williamson, 3rd base (trade)

Key losses: Brandon Lowe, 2B;Josh Lowe, RF;Jake Mangum, UA

Tagraiche Breakout: Chandler Simpson, LF

Rookies: Carson Williams, SS;Jacob Melton, Off

Prospects: Theo Gillen, OF;Daniel Daniel Pierce, SS;Slater de Brun, OF

The Rays made a lot of trades this offseason, but most of them will be more productive after 2026.The Rays are returning to the Tropicana field this year, which should be beneficial to the lineup. They signed veteran Cedric Mullins, who helps the defense more than the offense, and acquired Gavin Lux, who never really developed with the Dodgers or Reds.Their best acquisition was probably rookie Jacob Melton, but he was not on the Opening Day roster.

The center of the offense is Junior Carminero, one of the best young power hitters in baseball.Jonathan Aranda and Yandy Díaz are both listed as potential .300 hitters.Speedster Chandler Simpson will try to become the starting left fielder. If he gets there, he will probably lead the league in stolen bases. You just need to improve your on-base ability with the long-term goal of becoming a lead follower.

24. Washington Nationals

2025 goals: 687 Rank: 20th

Key additions: Harry Ford, C (Commercial);Abimelec Ortiz, 1B (Commercial)

Significant Damage: None

Standout Candidati: James Wood, LF; Dylan Crews, Russian Foederatio; Casa Brady, 3B

Rookie Watch: Harry Ford, C;Abimelech Ortiz, 1B

Prospect Watch: Eli Willetts, SS;Gavin Finn, INF;Sever King, SS;Luke Dickerson, SS/2B

The Nationals have a strong core of young hitters, led by rising star James Wood and power and speed threat CJ Abrams.Outfielder Daylen Leal will be looking to take his game to the next level, as will third baseman Brady House, whose development has taken a leap thanks to the new technology and analytics provided by the front office in the offseason.

Catcher Cabret Ruiz will compete with Harry Ford for the starting job this year.Ford will start the season in Triple A but could have more of an impact on the Nationals' catching rotation this year. Outfielder Dylan Cross, the No. 2 pick in 2023, will start the season in Triple A. If he can figure out the issues that have hampered his production, he still has the talent to be an impact player for Washington.

25. Cleveland Guards

2025 Run Score: 643 Rank: 28th

Key additions: Rhys Hoskins, 1B/DH (free agent)

Key losses: none

Krich: Kyle Manzardo, 1B

Rookie Watch: Chase Daughter, OF;George Valera, A.M.

Prospects to watch: Travis Bazzana, 2B; Angel Genao, SS; Ralph Velazquez, 1B/OF; Cooper Ingle, C

The Guardians' offense is led by future Hall of Famer Jose Ramirez, who is coming off a 30-pitch, 44-steal season.Leadoff hitter Steven Kwan is Cleveland's other top offensive player. The rest of the lineup relies on youngsters Kyle Manzarto and Jorge Valera to take the next step.I think he'll be a big hitter, while the addition of veteran Rhys Hoskins gives them the right-handed power they need at first base, designated hitter or off the bench.

26. Minnesota Twins

2025 Course Break Time: 678 Rank: 23rd

Key additions: Josh Bell, 1B/DH (free agent);Victor Caratini, center (free agent)

Major losses: None

Breakout Candidates: Royce Lewis, 3B;Luke Kitchell, 2 b

Bolomzhit Tsag: Walker Zhenkins, OF;Kalen Culpapper, SS;Eduardo Tait, S;Emmanuel Rodriguez, OF

The Twins' lineup always seems to hinge on the health of Byron Buxton and Royce Lewis, and this year is no different. Buxton appeared in 126 games last season, hitting 35 home runs and stealing 24 bases, while Lewis struggled to stay on the field and posted his worst offensive season (83 OPS+).

Luke Keaschall got his feet wet last season with a brilliant new campaign. He has strong boxing equipment, although he has also had health problems.Newly acquired first baseman Josh Bell and outfielders Trevor Larnach and Matt Wallner all provide at least 15-20 home run power. The best Walker Jenkins may be one big flower ready for this summer.

27. Cardinals of St. Louis

2025 Run Score: 698 Rank: 19th

Major additions: None

Clavis damna: Willson Contreras, 1B;Brendan Donovan, 2B;Nolan Arenado, 3B

Sini: Jordan Walker, RF;Nolan Gorman, 3B;Victor Scott II, CF

Rookies to watch: JJ Wetherholt, 2B

Prospects: Rainiel Rodriguez, C;Joshua Baez, LF;Leonardo Bernal, C;Jimmy Crooks, C

The Cardinals' best hitter is probably rookie JJ Wetherholt, who has yet to play in the major leagues. The Cardinals are strong defensively in center field with Macyn Winn at shortstop and Victor Scott II in center field.Alec Burleson won the Silver Slagger last season and is now their everyday first baseman after trading Willson Contreras to the Red Sox.Nolan Gorman finally gets to play his natural position at third base after the Cardinals traded Nolan Arenado to the Diamondbacks.

Jordan Walker will try to have a great season after three disappointing years in St.He has all the tools, now is the time to make the adjustments and put those tools back into production. This is a lineup of homegrown talent and by the end of the season the front office should know which players to build around and which to move on from.

28. Chicago White Sox

2025 Run Score: 647 Rank: 27

Key players: Munetaka Murakami, 1B (free agent/NPB release);Austin Hayes, OF (free agent);Luisangel Acuña, 2B/OF (Trade)

Key loss: Louis Robert Jr.

Candidatos emergentes: Kyle Teel, C; Colson Montgomery, SS

New watch: Munetaka Murakami, 1B

The prospects.Braden Montgomery, RF;Caleb Bonemer, 2B/SS;Billy Carlson, SS

The White Sox entered free agency this offseason and signed Japanese star Monitaka Murakami, who will be their everyday first baseman.Murakami has more power, but he also has serious contact problems. He's faced a variety of players, from Joey Gallo and Dave Kingman to Max Muncy and Luke Vought, Matt Olsen and Kelly Schwarber.I think he's close to Muncy. This means that he is a solid player.is

Others on their roster include 2021 power bat Colson Montgomery and one of the top young catchers in Kyle Teel, who played well last season. The White Sox signed Luis Robert Jr. in a trade this offseason, but I'm not sure they got enough back from the deal.

One of my favorite prospects is Braden Montgomery, who came with Teel and others from Boston in the Garrett Crochet trade. He won't make the team in spring training, but I think he will make the big leagues in the summer. The Sox have a ways to go before they have a contending streak, but they are headed in the right direction.

29. Los Angeles Angels

2025 Points: 673 Rank: 25th

Key additions: Josh Lowe, RF (business);Van Grissom, INF (commerce)

Key losses: Taylor Ward, RF

Calon breakout: Christian Moore, 2B;Nolan Schanuel, 1B

Expected guard: Nelson Rada, OF

The Angels traded one of their strongest hitters, Taylor Ward, to the Orioles this offseason, moving them up a few notches.Their offense is led by shortstop Zach Neto, who has emerged as a star after being selected in the first round of the 2022 draft. Mike Trout is now 34 years old and not the same player he once was. He still has power, but the hole at the top of the strike zone has grown for him.Last year, Jo Adell led the team with 37 homers and Nolan Schanuel hit .264 with 12 homers.

The only significant position player was Josh Lowe, a platoon player against a right-handed hitter.

30. Colorado rocks

2025 Run Score: 597 Rank: 29th

Key additions: Willie Castro, INF/OF (free agent);Jake McCarthy, OF (trade);Edward Julien, IF (free agent)

Key losses: None

Withdrawal Candidates: Ezequiel Tovar, SS;Brenton Doyle, C.F.;Edward Julien, 2B

Rookieklocka: Charlie Condon, 1B/RF

Prospect Watch: Ethan Holliday, SS; Jared Thomas, OF; Roldy Brito, 2B/OF; Roberto Calaz, OF

It's hard to believe the Rockies played half their games at Coors Field and still ranked 29th in scoring last year. This offseason they have done very little to add to the scoring, improving by inches rather than feet with their shots from Willi Castro, Edouard Julien and Jake McCarthy.

Their best offensive player was their lone All-Star last year: Hunter Goodman, who hit .278 with 31 home runs.Mickey Moniak had 24 bombs and Jordan Beck added 16. The Rockies are strong defensively with Ezekiel Tovar and in center field with Brenton Doyle, but need more offense from both.

Charlie Condon, the 2024 first-round player, looks like their long-term answer at first base but will start his first year in the minor with the wrong pole power.Their first-round pick last year at Ethan Holliday gave them long-term hope, but he was at least two to three years away.

It looks like another miserable summer for Colorado - a team that will likely finish last in the standings this year, despite the home ball game.
