The conference hopes to avoid another mess next season
ACC promises to revise post-title game limit, announces 2,026 opponents for new 9-game schedule
In 2026, each team's ACC opponents will begin transitioning to a nine-game schedule
The ACC announced the all-conference schedule for the 2026 football season on Tuesday as it began transitioning to a nine-game schedule. However, the most important information may be a link in the announcement announcing that they will have a new bra rule for 2026.
This comes on the heels of Duke winning the ACC Championship as a 5 loss team that wreaked havoc in the College Football Playoff.Duke's victory over Virginia in the ACC title game sent James Madison into the CFP as the fifth-highest conference champion, making Miami the greatest team to never play in the ACC Championship Game.the new tiebreaker policy will be announced sometime before next season.
In terms of the schedule itself, the 2026 campaign will be a unique one as they switch to a nine-game schedule. That's because five teams - Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech and North Carolina - will continue to play just eight ACC games in 2026 due to two pre-scheduled games against Power 4 opponents. The other 12 teams will go to nine games against each P4 opponent.
Beginning in 2027, since there are 17 schools in the ACC, there will be one team each year that will play only eight conference opponents. This team, which rotates every year, has to schedule two P4 opponents this season.
This will also impact Tibreerer as not every team will play the same number of conference games which should be part of the Calculation for Tibreerer Policy.
